Nagpur: The Maharashtra govt has approved the credit of Rs69.76 crore as its matching share for the Nag River Pollution Abatement Project, paving the way for rectifying a funding deficit flagged on Centre’s Public Financial Management System (PFMS) portal.Environment and Climate Change Department, in a govt resolution issued on Friday, sanctioned Rs69.76 crore to be credited to Single Nodal Account (SNA) of the centrally sponsored project. The amount will subsequently be re-credited to the state’s Consolidated Fund, as required under Centre’s SNA-SPARSH funding mechanism.The move follows Centre’s disbursement of Rs167.44 crore towards the project on June 30, 2025. The amount had been credited to the state’s Consolidated Fund and later transferred to the project’s SNA before being returned to Centre in accordance with the prescribed procedure.However, the state’s corresponding matching share had not been credited to the SNA. This resulted in a deficit of Rs69.76 crore appearing on PFMS portal under SNA-09 Excess/Deficit in Treasury Transfer to SNA report. The latest GR seeks to clear this accounting deficit.Nag River Pollution Abatement Project received administrative approval from National River Conservation Directorate in March 2023 at an estimated cost of Rs1,927 crore. Of this, Rs78 crore towards project management consultancy is to be borne by Centre, while Rs120 crore towards centage is to be jointly paid by the state govt and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).For the remaining project works, the funding pattern is 60% from Centre, 25% from the state and 15% from NMC.The latest GR directs that the Rs69.76 crore state share be directly credited to the project’s SNA and then transferred back to the state Consolidated Fund. The expenditure will be met from the sanctioned 2026-27 state budget under National River Conservation Plan.
