Mangaluru: Mangaluru South police have arrested a man who had been absconding for over 12 years in connection with a dacoity and kidnapping-for-ransom case. The suspect had been declared a long pending case (LPC) offender, after evading arrest since the registration of the case in 2014. The arrested accused is Shakeel,33, a resident of Jeppu.According to police, a case was registered against Shakeel at the Mangaluru South police station under Sections 364A (kidnapping for ransom), 395 (dacoity) read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) .Since the registration of the case, the accused had been evading arrest. Having remained absconding for over 12 years, the court subsequently classified the matter as a long pending case (LPC). Acting on credible information about his whereabouts, head constable Puttarama and police constable Malik of the Mangaluru South police station traced and arrested the accused near Nandigudda Circle on Wednesday. An investigation is ongoing.
