Kanpur: Kalyanpur police on Tuesday arrested the absconding director of a real-estate company, Brijendra Singh Chauhan alias Vijendra Singh Chauhan (53), in connection with an alleged Rs 52 lakh fraud involving promises to double investors’ money in five years and provide them with plots.Police said 19 cases were already registered against him, and a reward of Rs 25,000 had been announced for his arrest.On Monday, police arrested three other accused in the case and sent them to jail.The FIR was lodged on the complaint of Atul Tiwari, a resident of Azamgarh. Tiwari alleged that the branch manager of India Real Estate Company had persuaded his parents to invest money in the firm by promising to double their money in five years and provide them with plots.However, he alleged that after the completion of the five-year period, the accused failed to provide the promised returns. He further alleged that the company’s branch in Bindra Bazar was later shut down, following which he approached the ACJM-II court.Acting on the court’s orders, police registered a case on Dec 3, 2025, against Brijendra Singh Chauhan, Indresh Singh Chauhan and Kishan Veer, along with other unidentified persons.While four accused have been arrested so far, two company directors, Indresh Singh Chauhan and Kishan Veer, are still absconding.DCP West Qasim Abidi said police teams are conducting raids to trace and arrest the remaining accused.
