Mangaluru: The Mangaluru city police conducted a surprise raid at the district prison, and seized 10 mobile phones allegedly concealed by nine undertrials inside the jail. Police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH stated that acting on credible information that prisoners were using mobile phones inside the prison, Barke police registered a case under Section 323 of the BNS, and section 42 of the Karnataka Prisons Act on Tuesday.As part of the investigation, police raided various parts of the district prison, and recovered 10 smartphones were recovered from the A Block, allegedly hidden by nine prisoners identified as Rifath Ali, Ibrahim Khalil, Ashfaq alias Juttu Ashfaq, Arshad, Dawood Farvez, Nazrath Ali, Shifan, Abdul Sadiq and Arfaz.According to police, Rifat, Ibrahim, Ashfaq and Arshad are accused in the murder of Arif that took place near Thokkottu. Four others including Dawood, Nazrath, Shifan and Abdul, are accused in drug-peddling cases registered under the NDPS Act, while Arfaz is an accused in a case registered under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (KCOCA) at Kankanady police station.Barke police have launched a further investigation and are verifying other details related to the case, the police commissioner said.
