Mangaluru: Server glitches and poor internet connectivity are slowing down the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Dakshina Kannada, making it difficult for booth-level officers (BLOs) and assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) to upload documents and update records.The problem is particularly severe in areas within a two-kilometre radius of the district prison in Mangaluru, where mobile network jammers installed inside the prison are affecting connectivity. Officials say the disruptions are delaying hearings and document uploads on the SIR portal.A voter who attended a hearing at Bokkapatna Govt Primary School on Monday after receiving a notice over a mismatch in his name in the 2002 SIR roll had to wait for more than an hour because of server issues. Unable to complete the upload, the official accepted a copy of the document for further processing. “I availed half-day leave from work to attend the hearing. However, I could not complete the process within half a day,” the voter said.A BLO said poor internet coverage in several parts of the city was further delaying the process. Officials are required to upload supporting documents during hearings to rectify discrepancies identified during the revision.Dakshina Kannada has 16,46,387 voters in the draft electoral roll prepared under the SIR. Notices have been generated for 1,50,125 voters, of which 93,441 had been served as of Monday. Another 56,684 notices are yet to be delivered.BLOs are facing challenges in serving notices related to discrepancies such as age mismatches involving parents or grandparents, voters not linked to the previous SIR, and name mismatches. Conducting hearings and uploading documents has added to their workload. Additional DC K Raju said the district administration was taking steps to resolve the technical issues. “AEROs are handling an average of 50 to 100 hearings daily. We will address the network and server-related issues as well,” he said.
