Patna: An 80-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his elder son over a land dispute in Samastipur district on Wednesday night. The accused fled after the incident and police have launched a search to arrest him.The deceased was identified as Domi Panjiyar of Dahiyar village under Shivajinagar police station area. The accused, Anil Panjiyar (48), lives in a house adjoining the family’s ancestral home.According to the victim’s younger son, Subodh Panjiyar, the dispute began after Anil allegedly sold around 15 dhur of land in Darbhanga without informing other family members. When Domi questioned him, tensions escalated between father and son.Subodh alleged that Anil had previously assaulted their father over the issue. During one such altercation, he allegedly fractured Domi’s hand, following which the octogenarian was admitted to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital. He was discharged a few days before the latest incident.On Wednesday night, Anil allegedly assaulted his father again, causing severe injuries. Domi was rushed to Sadar Hospital but succumbed during treatment.Rosera SDPO Sanjay Sinha said the elderly man died after being assaulted by his son. The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.“Preliminary investigation suggests the murder was linked to a land dispute. Raids are underway to arrest the accused and further investigation is in progress,” Sinha said.
