Mangaluru: Belthangady police have arrested a habitual offender in connection with a theft case, after an investigation into an unnatural death revealed that the deceased had allegedly died accidentally while committing a burglary.During the investigation into unnatural death report registered at Belthangady police station on July 1, it was found that a theft had taken place at the spot where victim Mushtaq had died.Following this, a case was registered at Belthangady police station under Sections 331(4) and 305 read with 3(5) of the BNS. During the investigation into the theft, Belthangady police arrested accused P Ibrahim Latheef,36, a resident of Kashipatna in Belthangady, on July 14.During questioning, the accused reportedly revealed that on the night of June 30, deceased Mushtaq, Ibrahim Latheef and another accused had together and stolen aluminium and iron materials from the premises of an institution at Shakthinagar in Kuvettu, Belthangady. During the theft, Mushtaq’s neck accidentally got entangled in an iron wire, resulting in his death, he reportedly told police. Police have seized a total of 550 kg of stolen aluminium wires from the accused. During interrogation, it was also found that the accused was involved in a total of 16 theft cases registered at Venur, Uppinangady, Arehalli and Shivamogga Rural police stations, among others.
