Kendrapada: Seven persons, including owner of a drug de-addiction centre at Jaraka under Dharmasala police station limits in Jajpur district were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly killing a man at the centre on June 19.The accused have been identified as Rashmi Ranjan Panda (35) of Badamangapur, the owner of Sudhar Patha De-Addiction Centre at Jaraka, Sidhartha Sekhar Sahoo (31) of Kuakhia, Chandan Das (28) of Aradi village, Biswajit Rath (22) of Binjharpur, Mahendra Panda (32) of Dharmasala, Sunil Das (35) of Tikigumura and Mimanshu Pandi (22) of Sunaha.They were produced in court at Chandikhol on Tuesday. The court rejected their bail applications and remanded them to judicial custody, added the police officer.The victim, Rajiv Barik (38), a barber from Bhagabanpur village, was found dead under mysterious circumstances on June 19 at the de-addiction centre where he had gone to cut the hair of the inmates. His wife, Tulasi Barik, filed an FIR in Dharmasala police station on June 20 and alleged that her husband was killed in the centre by the inmates and staff. She alleged that Rajiv was beaten to death as his body bore multiple injury marks.“During investigation, we came to know that the barber was mercilessly beaten to death at the centre on June 19 by the accused as he reached late. The cause of death was confirmed through autopsy report,” said sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Jajpur, Sarat Chandra Patra. Hard disk of CCTV and other crucial evidence have been seized for forensic examination from the center, added the police officer.
