T’puram: A 60-year-old man was killed in a road accident after a tipper truck knocked down his two-wheeler and ran over his head at Kallambalam on Tuesday. The truck driver fled the scene without stopping.The deceased was identified as Babu of Mavinmoodu, Kallambalam.The accident occurred at 7.35am in front of a petrol pump at Kallambalam. According to police and eyewitnesses, both the scooter and the tipper truck were travelling from Kallambalam towards Attingal when the truck hit the scooter.The impact threw Babu onto the road, following which he fell beneath the rear wheels of the tipper truck. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle ran over his head, causing his death on the spot.His body was shifted to the Govt Medical College Hospital, Parippally, for postmortem examination.Kallambalam police have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from nearby establishments to identify and trace the tipper truck.Following the accident, a fire and rescue services team from Navaikulam reached the spot and cleared the road before traffic was restored.
