Hosapete (Vijayanagara): A physical target to construct 58,917 houses over the next five years under Rural Housing Scheme across six talukas has been set, district minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan said Thursday. An estimated Rs 6,048 crore has been earmarked for the project.Speaking at the district planning committee meeting, he said the govt spent Rs 191 crore last year to build 11,782 houses as part of the phased implementation plan. Raising concerns over slum regularisation, Zameer said there are 60 slums within Hosapete municipality limits — 35 on govt land and 25 on private land. He directed officials to issue e-khatas to residents of the 35 govt slums within one month, warning that failure to do so would make the officials concerned directly responsible. He said the govt has also set a target to construct layouts and distribute plots to landless people across the state within one year. As per the 2021 survey, Karnataka has nearly 36 lakh landless people. Eligible beneficiaries will receive plots after acquiring land from govt or private owners, forming layouts, and distributing sites. Zameer added that the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation has around 24,000 acres available, where layouts will be developed and plots allotted in phases. MLAs NT Srinivas, MP Latha Mallikarjun, Krishna Nayak, municipal corporation president N Rupesh Kumar, DC Kavita S Mannikeri, ZP CEO Nongjoy Mohammed Ali Akram Shah, DCF Anupama, and other officials attended the meeting.
