Kanpur: A headteacher at a primary school in Etawah took her own life by hanging at her residence on Wednesday. Being unmarried, she resided with her brother’s family. Police were informed by relatives and arranged for a post-mortem examination. The event occurred in Modhi village within the Bharthana region.Mridula Dohare (45) has been teaching at the primary school in Nagla Mohan since 2005. She remained unmarried, not having found a compatible match. Being well-educated, she was particular about her marriage preferences. She has been residing independently in a rental accommodation in Etawah for two years. Recently, she unexpectedly relocated to her village Modhi, bringing all her possessions, informing her brother that she would travel to school from there.Her elder brother Sunil works as a contractual fourth-class employee. His household comprises his elderly mother (90), wife, and four children. His younger brother is employed in Noida. His sisters Ruchi and Manju are married, while Mridula remains single. The family welcomed her return home, considering it practical to stay in their own house rather than paying rent. She didn’t attend work for ten days, citing health reasons.On the fateful morning, while Sunil was at work, his children played outdoors, his mother rested due to illness, and his wife visited her parents, Mridula secured herself in her room and used a scarf to hang herself from the ceiling grill. Sunil’s daughter Akanksha discovered the situation when she noticed the locked door and spotted Mridula through the window. Despite being alerted, Sunil arrived too late. He contacted the authorities immediately.The police accessed the room by breaking the window and door to retrieve her body. Sunil indicated they would lodge a formal complaint once his younger brother returns from Noida. Akanksha revealed they prepared meals together that morning, with Mridula appearing normal during their interactions. The incident occurred after they went outside. Bharthana station officer Arimardan Singh confirmed receiving the suicide report. The police and forensic teams attended the scene, secured the body, and arranged for a post-mortem examination. Initial investigations suggest suicide, with ongoing family interviews to determine the cause.
