Ahmedabad: A 42-year-old woman from Naranpura has lodged a police complaint accusing her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to prolonged mental and physical harassment throughout her marriage. The complainant, who married in 2008, alleged that troubles began shortly after the wedding when her husband reportedly seized her personal belongings and handed them to his parents. She also accused her in-laws of misrepresenting her husband’s employment status before the marriage, which led to disputes when she confronted them.The woman alleged she faced persistent taunts, verbal abuse, and repeated demands for additional dowry. She claimed her husband emotionally neglected her, distancing himself and refusing to provide financial support. According to the complaint, she was pressured into employment, but her earnings were allegedly confiscated while she continued to shoulder all household duties alone.The complainant further alleged that her in-laws repeatedly insulted her family background and humiliated her on multiple occasions. She also accused them of denying her adequate care during her pregnancy and after childbirth. Despite multiple attempts at reconciliation, including legal mediation, the matter remained unresolved, prompting her to approach the police. Officials have registered the complaint, and an investigation is underway.
