Mangaluru: Police seized 4,175 litres of diesel that was allegedly stored illegally in barrels and cans at Kaniyur village in Belthangady taluk.According to police, the operation was carried out on Monday night, following credible information received by Belthangady sub-divisional DSP Rohini CK. Acting on the tip-off that diesel was being stored illegally at Mudalthiyar in Kaniyur village, the officer directed the Uppinangady circle inspector and station officials to verify the information.Police then visited the location and conducted a search at a shed near the house of Jagadish, 35. During the inspection, they found diesel stored in about 20 barrels with a capacity of around 200 litres each and five cans with a capacity of approximately 35 litres each, amounting to a total of about 4,175 litres of diesel.Officials also found several empty barrels, empty cans, and other materials at the site. The total value of the seized diesel and related items was estimated to be around Rs 3.5 lakh. During questioning, the accused Jagadish reportedly failed to produce any valid licence or permission for storing such a large quantity of diesel. Also, the diesel was stored illegally without following the required safety regulations.Based on the findings, a case was registered at Uppinangady police station under provisions of the BNS, Essential Commodities Act and Petroleum Act.
