Mangaluru: As many as 35,160 pending traffic violation cases were disposed of and Rs 92.4 lakh collected in fines during a special drive conducted by the Mangaluru City police commissionerate following the state govt’s decision to offer a 50% rebate on pending traffic fines.The rebate, applicable to traffic violations recorded up to May 2026, was available from June 21 to July 10, stated city police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CHPolice said motorists cleared the pending fines either online or by visiting police stations in person. Of the 35,160 cases disposed of, 18,792 were violations detected through AI-enabled cameras, while 16,368 were cases booked by police officers and personnel during duty.Meanwhile, as part of efforts to improve road safety and ensure strict enforcement of traffic rules, the city police have initiated action to suspend the driving licences (DLs) of 224 motorists involved in fatal accidents and serious traffic violations.The driving licences were seized and forwarded to the respective regional transport offices (RTOs) with recommendations for suspension. Of the 224 DLs, 137 have been suspended, while the remaining are in various stages of the suspension process.
