Rajkot: A 39-year-old man from Jamnagar, Ashish Chandra, ended his life on Tuesday after allegedly facing mental harassment from moneylenders.The City C-Division police station registered an offence on Wednesday following a complaint filed by the deceased’s brother, Amrish.According to the complaint, Ashish took a loan of nearly Rs 26 lakh in 2018-19 from a Non Banking Finance Company (NBFC) by mortgaging a house registered in his mother’s name. Despite repaying approximately Rs 22 lakh through monthly EMIs of Rs 38,530, company representatives allegedly began pressuring him, claiming an exorbitant outstanding balance of Rs 39 lakh.Under pressure to meet the finance company’s demands, he resorted to borrowing money at excessively high interest rates from local private moneylenders.The complainant stated that the three accused harassed Ashish to recover their funds. On July 13, Ashish even called his brother late at night to confess that he was trapped in a cycle of interest and urgently needed money.On Tuesday, he consumed some poisonous sulphur powder at his home and died.The victim also left behind a suicide note detailing the harassment that drove him to take his own life.The Jamnagar police have booked the three accused, namely Nilesh Gandha, Shivarajsinh alias Shivo Jadeja and Munna Vasiyar, under BNS sections.
