Hyderabad: Raidurgam police have arrested a 23-year-old private worker-turned laptop thief and recovered four stolen laptops from his possession. Police alleged that he turned to theft to clear debts incurred through online betting.The accused, identified as Nagishetty Jashwanth, was a former MNC employee from Rompicherla in Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh.While investigating complaints related to three laptop thefts reported from MR Grand Hostel in Khajaguda on June 22, Raidurgam police verified the CCTV footage at different places and arrested the accused from Gachibowli on June 26.“During interrogation, the accused confessed that he had incurred a debt of ₹2 lakh due to an online betting addiction. He admitted to committing laptop thefts within the Raidurgam police station limits over the past six months to clear the debt,” Raidurgam inspector Ch Venkanna said.The probe also revealed that Jashwanth had stolen eight laptops over the past five months from hostels in Madhapur and Raidurgam. He sold four of them via the Cashify app, while police recovered the remaining four laptops, worth about ₹2.5 lakh, from his possession.The accused was produced before a magistrate on June 27 and remanded to judicial custody.
