CHENNAI: A 20-year-old history-sheeter was hacked to death by a four-member gang near his house in Washermenpet, Chennai, late on Sunday night. Police suspect previous enmity to be the motive and have launched a search for the attackers.The deceased, Ajay, 20, was classified by police as a ‘C’ category history-sheeter and was involved in three criminal cases. He worked as a food delivery executive and lived in Washermenpet.According to police, Ajay was returning home on his motorcycle after meeting a friend when he was intercepted by a four-member gang at around 11.30 pm. The attackers, who were allegedly waiting near his house, chased him after he tried to escape.Police said the gang blocked his path, attacked him with sharp-edged weapons and fled the scene, leaving him with fatal injuries.Residents who witnessed the attack rushed Ajay to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.The Washermenpet police recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. A murder case has been registered, and investigators are examining CCTV footage, questioning witnesses and collecting other evidence to identify and arrest the four suspects.
