Surat: A 20-year-old man has been booked for raping a 15-year-old girl after she recently gave birth to a baby. Police said the accused gave her a cold drink laced with a sedative and raped her.Adajan police arrested the accused after booking him under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. According to the complaint, the victim was working at a shop in the Adajan police station area. The accused, Arpit Gupta (20), ran a fruit cart near the shop. The two became friends. In Aug 2025, Gupta took the girl to a friend’s house on Palanpur Canal Road, where he allegedly gave her a cold drink laced with a sedative and raped her after she got incapacitated. He later allegedly threatened her against revealing the incident to anyone. The got became pregnant and gave birth to a baby two days ago. After the delivery, her family approached Adajan police and filed a complaint against Gupta. Adajan police inspector V A Jograna said, “We have arrested Gupta based on the rape complaint. We are investigating why the family did not approach police earlier. We are also exploring whether Gupta threatened the family.” Both the accused and victim are originally from Uttar Pradesh, and their families had migrated to Surat to earn a living.
