Kanpur: Three people, including two children, were killed and nine others seriously injured after a speeding SUV carrying two families from Haryana to Bihar rammed into a truck parked on the service lane of the Kanpur-Prayagraj Highway near Ruma in Maharajpur on Monday morning.The impact of the crash, which occurred about 20 km from Kanpur city, was so severe that the SUV was ripped apart, trapping the occupants inside. Police later arrested the truck driver, who had fled the scene.Police said all 12 occupants of the SUV were travelling from Sirsa in Haryana to Gaya in Bihar. Preliminary investigation suggested the vehicle was travelling at over 100 kmph when it crashed into the rear of the parked truck.The deceased were identified as SUV driver Bajrang (45), a resident of Dig Baddi in Sirsa, Dilkush Kumar (11) of Bihar, and Neha (15).According to eyewitnesses, the truck was parked on the service lane when the SUV rammed into it from behind. Police said the collision was so severe that the SUV was completely mangled and its roof was torn off. The occupants were trapped inside the wreckage and cried for help. Police personnel used gas cutters to cut open the vehicle and, with the help of passersby, rescued the injured.The injured were initially taken to Kanshiram Hospital and later referred to Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) Hospital. They were identified as Naresh Manjhi (40), Savitri Devi (31), Sneha Kumar (8), Vakil Yadav (35), Riya (8), Anisha Kumari (10), Kavita Kumari (18), Himanshu (22), and Kesar Bharti (28).The truck driver, identified as Adarsh Singh, a resident of Mirzapur, told police that he had parked the truck on the service lane and was sleeping inside when the SUV crashed into it from behind.
