Hisar: The Hisar police on Tuesday claimed to have unearthed an illegal arms manufacturing unit in Sirsa district and arrested two persons. The police also recovered weapons and a large cache of equipment used in making firearms. The action began on April 11, when a CIA team, led by sub-inspector Vijay Kumar, apprehended Sahil, a resident of Khasa Mahajan village, during a patrol. He was found in possession of a .315-bore pistol and two live cartridges, said the police.During interrogation, Sahil disclosed that he procured the weapon from Raju, a resident of Farmai Kalan village in Sirsa. Acting swiftly, the CIA team conducted a raid and arrested Raju from his village, they said. The deputy superintendent of police, Kamaljit Singh, said during questioning, Raju admitted to manufacturing illegal firearms at his residence. The police recovered a substantial quantity of weapons and manufacturing equipment from Raju’s premises. The seized items include pistol components, finished barrels, live cartridges, pipes used in cartridge-making, springs, tools such as files, chisels, screwdrivers, and heavy equipment like an electric cutter, drill machine and a welding unit, said the DSP.Officials said the setup functioned as a small-scale factory for producing country-made weapons. The police are now probing whether the arrested accused persons were part of a larger network involved in illegal arms supply. “Further interrogation is underway to identify other people involved and trace the distribution chain,” said an official.MSID:: 130262226 413 |
