Kanpur: Two people died and three others were seriously injured after a speeding car allegedly lost control while trying to avoid cattle and hit a highway crash barrier on the Kanpur-Jhansi Highway on Tuesday night, police said.The accident took place near Mawar village in the Bhognipur police station area of Kanpur Dehat.The deceased were identified as Ajay Kumar (35) and Sunil Kushwaha (38).Satyendra Singh, one of the persons injured in the accident, said that the mishap occurred when cattle suddenly came onto the road near a petrol pump in Mawar. He said that while trying to save the animal, the driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the crash barrier.The barrier tore through the front portion of the car and pierced the vehicle, causing extensive damage and trapping the occupants inside.Police reached the spot after receiving information about the accident and, with the help of local residents, rescued the injured and rushed them to Medical College, Akbarpur. Upon arrival at the hospital, two persons were declared dead, while the other three were reported to be in critical condition.Bhognipur police station in charge Satish Singh said that both bodies had been kept in the mortuary for postmortem examination and that the cause of the accident was being investigated.
