Vadodara: Fifteen sets of nomination papers were filed by seven candidates on Monday, the last day for filing nominations for the Manjalpur assembly byelection.Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on Tuesday and candidates can withdraw their nominations till July 16.Voting for the bypoll is scheduled for July 30, according to the Election Commission of India, while counting of votes will be held on Aug 3.

Among the key contenders are BJP candidate Satish Patel and Congress nominee Bhikha Rabari, both of whom filed multiple sets of nomination papers. BJP candidates Satyendra Patel, Paresh Brahmbhatt and Ratnasagar Rajrajeshwar Dhulabhai also submitted their nomination papers, while Congress candidates Bhikha Rabari and Dharmesh Patel completed the filing process.Besides the two major parties, Dinesh Ramakant Vyas of the Right to Recall Party and independent candidate Paresh Vinodkumar Rathod also entered the fray.The election commission said every candidate must submit an affidavit in the Form 26 along with the nomination papers. These affidavits will be uploaded on the Gujarat chief electoral officer’s website within 24 hours of submission to ensure public access.
