Rajkot: A 12-year-old girl died after allegedly suffering a serious head injury while getting off a Ferris wheel at a Janmashtami fair in Wadhwan city of Surendranagar district late on Saturday night.The incident occurred around 11.30pm on Sep 5 when Niharika Parmar was visiting the fair with her family. Wadhwan police have launched an investigation into the girl’s death.Surendranagar police officer Parth Parmar told TOI that Niharika’s father, Kantilal Parmar was an assistant sub-inspector with the Thangadh police station.According to police, the family members were seated in a cabin on the Ferris wheel. After the ride stopped, Niharika was the first member of the family to be helped out of the cabin, while the other family members, including her father, were still getting down.At that point, the operator allegedly moved the trolley forward, causing it to hit Niharika on the head. She fell to the ground and suffered a serious head injury.Niharika was rushed to C U Shah Medical College for treatment, where the doctor on duty declared her dead.Police are recording statements from the Ferris wheel operator, those involved in operating the ride and members of the Parmar family as part of the investigation.
