The deceased were identified as Dhyey Dhamasna (14), Vasu Savsani (12), Deep Rajpara (14) and Vanshit Khambhayta (15). Dhyey, Vasu and Deep were residents of Dahisarda village, while Vanshit was from Dhrol in Jamnagar district. Vanshit had come to stay at his maternal uncle’s house during Janmashtami holidays.Rajkot Rural SP Vijaysinh Gurjar told TOI that the incident occurred around 3pm on Saturday. The children had gone to bathe in the check dam located behind a Hanuman temple in Dahisarda. Within moments, they began drowning one after another.After being alerted, Paddhari mamlatdar, Metoda police and a fire brigade team rushed to the spot. Local swimmers and a team of Rajkot Municipal Corporation joined the rescue operation and recovered the bodies. Deep’s body was recovered last, with the search continuing until late at night.Police found the children’s clothes, slippers and other belongings outside the check dam.Three of the four children lived on the same street. On Sunday, the funeral processions of Dhyey, Vasu and Deep passed through the same lane, leaving the village in mourning. Dahisarda observed a voluntary shutdown, and the three friends were cremated together.A local resident, Devji, said Dhyey was his parents’ only son and was studying in Class 9. He had a sister and his father was a farmer. Vasu’s father, who works in a private job, has two sons. Deep, also a Class 9 student, was his parents’ only son and had two sisters. His father is a businessman.
