Thiruvananthapuram: A youth was killed and two of his friends were seriously injured after the two-wheeler they were travelling on crashed into a road divider on National Highway 66 near Navaikulam in the early hours of Friday.The deceased was identified as Arun Krishna, 20, alias Akkudu, of Vadasserikonam. He was the only son of Babu and Ajitha. The two others — Shyam of Mavinmoodu and Balu of Nellikode — sustained serious injuries in the crash. They were shifted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, where they are undergoing treatment.The accident occurred around 1am near Mangattu Vathukkal petrol pump at 28th Mile on the NH. The motorcycle, travelling from Attingal towards Kollam, skidded and slammed into a large iron barricade installed along the divider as the rider allegedly lost control.Krishna was trapped in the safety wires. Locals and passersby managed to pull him out with great difficulty, but he succumbed to his injuries. He was rushed to the nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead.Krishna’s body was shifted to the mortuary at Parippally medical college hospital for postmortem examination.Kallambalam police registered a case under the provision of unnatural death and launched an investigation. Initial findings suggest the motorcycle lost control, though the exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
