Times News NetworkKanpur: A youth, preparing to join the Army, died on the spot and his friend suffered a leg injury after a speeding truck hit them on the Bidhnu-Kisan Nagar highway in Bidhnu, Kanpur, at 4 am on Friday when they had gone for a run.The deceased was identified as Rajendra Savita (28). His friend, Pankaj, a resident of Jamu, was flung away in the impact and suffered leg injury.Family members said Rajendra had been selected for the Army and was to go and join after receiving the letter on August 1. They alleged that a PRV vehicle of Bidhnu police station area was present just a few steps from the accident site, but when Pankaj went to inform the policemen, they told him to call Dial-112.Farmer Sakoo Lal, a resident of Bidhnu Jamrehi village, said the family comprises wife Siya Dulari, three sons Mahendra, Narendra and Rajendra Savita (28), and four daughters Savitri, Sapna, Saraswati and Anuradha. He said Rajendra was preparing for the Army, for which he used to go running every day at 4 am.As usual, at 4 on Friday morning, Rajendra had gone for a run with Pankaj when a truck coming from behind hit both of them on the highway. Rajendra came under the wheels and died on the spot.On receiving the information, the police and family members reached the spot and took Rajendra to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
