T’puram: A 23-year-old youth was arrested with 11.80g of MDMA by district anti-narcotic special action force (Dansaf) rural team during a raid at Balaramapuram Junction on Wednesday. The accused was identified as Abhinay of Marayamuttam, Neyyattinkara.Police said the arrest was made based on a specific tip-off received by Dansaf team.According to police, Abhinay had allegedly collected the MDMA from another suspected drug peddler at Karikkakom earlier in the day and was transporting the contraband when he was apprehended.Police officials said the accused had previously been booked in a drug-related case, and his activities were being monitored in view of his alleged involvement in narcotics trafficking.“The arrest was made following sustained surveillance and specific intelligence. Efforts are under way to identify and apprehend the supplier and others linked to the drug network,” a police officer said.The accused will be produced before the jurisdictional court after completing necessary legal formalities. Further probe is in progress to trace the source of the narcotics.
