Mohali: A young man was found dead at a hotel located in Ranjan Plaza, Zirakpur. The deceased has been identified as Abhishek Chauhan, a resident of Tehsil Theog in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district.Police said he checked into the hotel on his own two days prior to the incident. Around 9pm, hotel staff grew suspicious when repeated knocks went unanswered and entered the room. They found the youth hanging and immediately informed the police.A police team reached the spot and took custody of the body, which has been kept in the mortuary of Dera Bassi civil hospital. No suicide note was recovered from the room. Police said the case is being probed from all possible angles.The incident took a serious turn after revelations that the hotel was in the process of being sealed by the administration nearly 20 days ago. Sources said it was found during a raid that illegal activities, including immoral trafficking, were being done on the premises. Following the raid, the administration initiated legal proceedings to shut down the hotel. However, the process could not be completed as the police reportedly failed to secure required court permissions, allowing the establishment to continue operations.While police investigation into the youth’s death is underway, the incident has also raised serious questions about administrative accountability and enforcement lapses.
