Shivamogga: A 24-year-old youth has lost his life after a piece of food got stuck in his throat during a party at Chennahalli village in Kumsi hobli.The deceased is Sachin, and the incident took place on Thursday night at a construction site.A villager hosted a party for his friends to celebrate the progress of his new farmhouse building. Sachin, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, moved inside an under-construction structure to eata alone. His friends, unaware that he was still inside the building, wound up the party and returned to their respective homes. They assumed Sachin had already left, police said.The tragedy came to light on Friday morning when masonry workers arrived at the site to resume work and discovered Sachin’s body. While the family was initially not ready to take the body for postmortem, but shifted it to their house, Kumsi police intervened after being alerted by the villagers. Police secured the body and initiated a post-mortem examination at McGann District Hospital to determine the exact cause of death, given the unusual circumstances.Medical professionals who conducted the autopsy confirmed that a chicken bone became fatally lodged in Sachin’s throat. The doctors noted the combination of intoxication and the physical struggle to breathe may have led to his sudden death, police said.Shivamogga SP B Nikhil confirmed that police registered a case of unnatural death (UDR) and took up the investigation suo motu. Following the completion of the legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family on Friday.
