Udupi: A youth died in a road accident after his motorcycle crashed into a roadside tree in Kelaparkala near Manipal late on Monday night.According to the complainant, Pratham Sherigar, a resident of Herga village, he along with his friends Sanath and Ashish had visited Manipal for dinner. At 1.25am, as they were returning home, Sanath borrowed Pratham’s motorcycle to ride back.While riding from Manipal toward Parkala, Sanath lost control near the Gopalakrishna Temple in Kelaparkala, Herga village. The motorcycle veered off to the extreme right side of the road and collided violently with a tree by the roadside.Impact from the collision threw Sanath along with the bike into a roadside drain, causing severe head and bodily injuries. He was immediately rushed to Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, for medical treatment, where doctors examined him and declared him dead on arrival. Manipal police station registered a case.Refrigerator explodesA sudden refrigerator explosion triggered a fire at a residence in Athooru, Ramakunja village, Kadaba taluk, on Tuesday, causing partial damage to the house and destroying household items. Kadaba police confirmed the incident and said the team is yet to visit the spot.
