Mangaluru: The Tulu Cultural Research Foundation (TCRF) will organise the second edition of Tulunad Conclave at govt PU College, Mulki, on Aug 23.The event will bring together scholars, artists and cultural activists to deliberate on preservation and promotion of Tulu language and heritage. TCRF president Nischith G Ramakunja told TOI that the conclave aims to bring Tuluva youth together for discussion on language and culture. We will also recognise individuals who have contributed to the Tulu language, he said.TCRF founder Mahi Mulki said this year they expect increased participation mainly from young people, and the objective is to create greater awareness about Tulu culture and language among the youth. The inaugural session will focus on various aspects of Tulu studies, including literature, linguistics and cultural documentation. A special session will examine the use of tech in language preservation and feature a presentation on AI-based text-to-speech system for Tulu.The post-lunch programme will include panel discussions and interactions with writers, scholars and cultural practitioners. Topics will range from folk traditions and oral narratives to contemporary challenges faced by the Tulu community.The conclave will also feature discussions on education, including the need for wider inclusion of Tulu in formal learning, and community-led initiatives to sustain the language. A documentary titled Kangulu-Karangolu will also be screened and an AI-based text-to-speech system for Tulu will be released.‘Tulunada Kula Siri’, a lifetime achievement award will be presented to Sheena Patri, a person who dedicated his life to the worship of Daivas. The conclave is open to students, researchers and the locals. The day-long event will be held from 10am to 5.30pm. DK MP Brijesh Chowta, MLA Umanath Kotian and others will be present.Books to be released include Article of Harsha Tulunad named Vajradarage, Jeetige – Tulu script learning book (third edition), Kantabare Budabare book by Sushan, Appe – collection of articles written dedicated to mother, Beerada Bolpu – widely celebrated book written by Mandara Keshava Bhat.
