Udupi: A Karkala resident was allegedly duped of Rs 32.6 lakh after cyber fraudsters lured him into an investment scheme using the names of a stockbroking platform.On July 17, the complainant came across a Facebook video promising double returns on investments made through a group and a app. After clicking the link in the video, he was added to WhatsApp groups where unidentified persons persuaded him to invest in shares and initial public offerings (IPOs), promising high returns. Acting on their instructions, the complainant allegedly transferred Rs 32.6 lakh in multiple transactions between July 17 and Aug 4. However, the fraudsters neither returned the invested amount nor paid the promised returns.Based on his complaint, Karkala Rural police registered a case under Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act and Section 318(4) of the BNS.
