Hyderabad: Tension flared in Chintalmet area of Attapur after a group of local youths allegedly set fire to the door of a house in Chintalmet, where hotel workers were staying, and later attacked one of the workers with a knife on Sunday following an argument. The victim suffered minor injuries. Attapur police registered two separate cases, one for arson and another for attempt to murder, and arrested one of the accused.The first incident took place around 10 pm on Saturday. Md Sajjad, 39, an electrician from Wadi-e-Mahamood in Chintalmet, Attapur, was alerted by his nephew Faizan that a group of local youths were smoking and consuming liquor in front of his house. When Sajjad reached the spot, an argument broke out. According to police, the youths then called their associates, poured petrol on the door of the house and set it on fire.“Workers of a local hotel stay in that house, which is owned by my sister. The workers informed my nephew about the hooligans, and he in turn sought my help. I was assaulted by the group when I tried to stop them, and they set the door ablaze,” Sajjad told police. Based on his complaint, Attapur police on Sunday registered a case against Shahid, Maqdoom, Sameer, Adnan, Raheem, Pasha, Umrez and others.Police said that around 4 pm on Sunday. Rehan, an associate of the accused, allegedly came to the house when Sk Lukman Ali, 28, a hotel worker from West Bengal, was present inside. “I was asleep and heard a knock on the door around 4 pm. As soon as I opened it, Rehan attacked me with a knife. I suffered a cut on my back,” Lukman alleged. Neighbours shifted Lukman to OGH, where he was treated. Based on Lukman’s complaint, police registered an attempt to murder case against Rehan on Sunday night.“The accused in the arson case are absconding. In the attempt to murder case, the accused has been arrested,” Attapur police said.
