Kanpur: A 27-year-old mentally unstable man died in Etawah’s Mohalla Gandhi Nagar after allegedly hitting himself with an axe. Before the incident, he reportedly said he was sacrificing himself to a deity.Police said Rajesh collapsed on the spot and was taken to a hospital in Bakewar, where he was declared dead.On receiving information, Circle Officer Bharthana Ram Daban Maurya and other police officials, reached the spot with a forensic team. Police prepared the panchnama and sent the body for postmortem. The axe used in the incident was seized from the spot.Family members said Rajesh was mentally disturbed for a long time. On Sunday he struck his toe with an axe, but no one thought that he would take such a drastic step.Rajesh’s aunt was working on the terrace at the time of the incident, and his uncle went to feed the animals. When they returned, they found him in a pool of blood.As Rajesh’s parents had died several years back, he was raised by his uncle Shanti alias Santosh.His uncle Santosh Kumar Tiwari said Rajesh had been mentally disturbed for some time and was addicted to alcohol. After consuming alcohol he would say “Mata is demanding sacrifice,” creating fear and tension at home. He frequently had disputes with his uncle over vacating the house, Santosh said.Rajesh married Rani, a resident of Jharkhand, about two years ago. Family members said that one month after the marriage, his wife went to her maternal home and has been living separately since then.Police station in-charge Vipin Malik said necessary evidence related to the incident was being collected as the case was being thoroughly investigated.
