Kanpur: Police shot a robber in the left leg following an encounter near Pakshi Vihar in Nawabganj, Unnao on Sunday night.Ajgain Kotwali police were checking suspicious vehicles on Sunday night on the Nawabganj Pakshi Vihar Ring Road when a TVS sport bike was signalled to stop. Upon seeing the police, the bike riders turned back and started fleeing towards Kanhai Kheda village. When police cordoned off the area, the criminals abandoned the bike and opened fire on the police team.In the retaliatory action by police, one criminal was shot at and was arrested. His accomplice was also arrested .The criminals were identified as Govind (19), a resident of Himmatgarh under Sohramau police station area, and Rahul alias Golu (24), a resident of Jalim Kheda under Ajgain Kotwali area. Govind, injured by the gunshot in his leg, was taken to CHC Nawabganj.During interrogation, Govind revealed that on the morning of March 9, he along with another accomplice, Karan, a resident of Mohalla Bangla Pachhiyav in Nawabganj town, they stopped a truck driver between Nawabganj Toll Plaza and Pakshi Vihar and forcibly took Rs 8,000 in cash and got Rs 21,225 transferred through UPI.Inspector Kotwali police station Suresh Singh said that a bike, a country-made pistol, two mobile phones, and Rs 2,800 of the looted money were recovered from the accused. He said both the apprehended criminals were habitual offenders. The injured criminal Govind has six cases of robbery and the Arms Act registered against him at Ajgain, Sohramau, and Dahi police stations, while Rahul alias Golu has nine serious cases registered against him. “A search was underway for the third accused, Karan,” Singh said further.
