COIMBATORE: The partially burnt body of an unidentified young woman was found in an isolated area behind a private college at Vattamalaipalayam here on Wednesday evening. Police said it did not appear to be a case of suicide. Injuries were found on the woman’s forehead and the back of her head, and investigators suspect that she had been struck with a stone before being set on fire. The absence of burn injuries on her back suggests the fire may have been set after her death, according to police. They said there was no evidence of a sexual assault. The woman wore a red dress and had a tattoo on her left hand. The Thudiyalur police recovered the body and sent it to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for postmortem. Forensic personnel and a K9 squad visited the scene and collected evidence. The city police formed three special teams to investigate. They were examining whether the murder had occurred at the spot where the body was found or whether it had been brought there after the murder.
