COIMBATORE: In two separate incidents on Wednesday, the Coimbatore city police seized 20 kg of ganja and arrested five men on charges of peddling the contraband.Police seized 12 kg of ganja from R Sabarishwaran, 28, of Madurai, and J Akash, 20, and S Suresh, 18, of Puliyakulam and arrested them. They seized eight kg of ganja from R Rajendra Kumar Mohanty, 36, of Karumathampatti and T Gunjan Kumar, 20, of Mylampatty and arrested them. In the first incident, the Kattoor police, who were involved in a vehicle check near Gandhipuram on Wednesday night, intercepted a motorcycle on which three men were travelling. Police felt suspicious, checked a bag the trio were carrying and found ganja in it. The men told police that Sabarishwaran had procured 12 kg of ganja from Andhra Pradesh and reached Coimbatore to sell it to college students and others with the help of the other two.In the second incident, the prohibition enforcement wing of the city police, acting on specific intelligence about ganja sales, conducted a search near Chinniyampalayam and found two men standing suspiciously. On inquiries, it was revealed that both were involved in peddling ganja. Police seized eight kg of ganja from them.All the five men were remanded in judicial custody.
