Silchar: Police seized 70,000 suspected Yaba tablets valued at more than Rs 7 crore and arrested two persons during a raid in Dakshin Krishnapur, within the jurisdiction of Silchar police station, on Friday evening.Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided a rented house in the Rahimer Dokan area of Dakshin Krishnapur village and recovered seven packets containing the suspected contraband.Police said the seized tablets had a gross weight of around 7.6 kg. The arrested men were identified as Ajmal Uddin Laskar, 47, and Azim Uddin Laskar, 28, both residents of Saidpur, within the jurisdiction of Silchar police station.Sources said the two men were the husband and brother-in-law, respectively, of a former president of the Saidpur gram panchayat.A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and further legal proceedings have been initiated.Police are investigating the source and intended destination of the consignment and are trying to identify others allegedly linked to the drug-trafficking network.
