Gorakhpur: In a major push towards women’s empowerment, the Yogi govt has approved construction of a 500-bed working women’s hostel in Gorakhpur under the Mukhyamantri Shramjeevi Mahila Chhatravas Yojana.DM Deepak Meena said Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd, Gorakhpur unit, has been nominated as the executing agency by the women and child welfare department to build the hostel. The project, estimated to cost Rs 47.38 crore, will come up on 6,640 square metres of land adjacent to Chargawan block campus. Of the sanctioned amount, Rs 16.58 crore has been released as the first instalment. The tender was floated on Jan 28 and the technical bid will open on March 6. Officials said plan are afoot to lay the foundation stone by chief minister Yogi Adityanath in March.According to the plan, the building will have stilt parking and 8 floors, housing 250 rooms with single, double and triple-bed capacity. Facilities will include CCTV surveillance, fire safety systems, rainwater harvesting, a creche, gym, auditorium, laundry, canteen and a departmental store.Meanwhile, a 75-bed working women’s hostel is already under construction near Sahara Estate under the Mukhyamantri Vaishvik Nagarodaya Yojana at a cost of Rs 18.08 crore. About 40% of the work has been completed and the project is expected to be ready by June 2027.
