Varanasi: A woman died during Caesarean delivery performed by an unqualified health worker at an unauthorised private hospital in Ballia on Feb 23. After police probe, the hospital was sealed while all staff members, masquerading as doctors, are absconding. The woman’s body was sent for post mortem, said Ballia CO (Bairia) Mohammad Faheem Ansari.Chief medical officer in charge Dr Vijay Yadav and SDM (Bairiya) A P Singh said the unauthorised hospital was sealed, while role of ASHA worker who took Mamta Devi (26) to this private hospital for delivery was being probed.During investigation, officials found that Mamta’s (26) husband, Mithilesh of Rampur Bajidpur in Dokati area, had sent her to her maternal home in Sonbarsa for her first delivery. Mamta’s mother, Chandrawati, said that on advice of an ASHA worker, Mamta was admitted to the hospital in Shakeel Katra on Feb 22 evening.On Feb 23, a C-section operation was performed by a woman staff. Mamta delivered a healthy baby, but during surgery she had started bleeding profusely, after which, the staff asked to take her to a higher centre, but they demanded Rs 50,000 before discharging her. Before Chandrawati could arrange the money, Mamta died.Based on Chandrawati’s complaint, police lodged named FIR against seven along with unidentified persons associated with the hospital on charges of culpable homicide.
