Ahmedabad: The work on Project SAMARTH (Silicon and Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Research and Training Hub), announced last year during the Gujarat Semiconnect Conference, commenced at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT-Gn), with the construction of a facility to train the workforce for the semiconductor sector in Gujarat. A joint initiative of the department of science and technology (DST) of Gujarat govt, the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) of the Centre, IIT Gandhinagar, along with Tata Electronics and Synapses, it is envisaged as a centre to train technicians, operators, and engineers; lead indigenous research and development; develop niche devices and processes; and develop process tools.Prof Rajat Moona, director of IIT-Gn, said that it is a game-changing initiative that will lay a strong foundation for the development of trained and skilled manpower.
