Cockroach Janta Party spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka alleged police surveillance outside his Jaipur residence

JAIPUR: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka on Tuesday alleged that Rajasthan Police was keeping a watch on people entering and leaving his house, hours after the organisation’s team faced a confrontation during its campaign to inspect government schools. In a post on X, Ranka said, “For the last 2 hours, Rajasthan police is surveilling every person going in and out of my house.”He challenged the police to arrest him directly if they wanted to, while insisting that he and his team would continue their campaign.“If Rajasthan Police wants, they can come and directly arrest me. But me and my team aren’t stopping till all the schools of Rajasthan are fixed,” he said. The allegation comes days after Ranka and other CJP members were involved in a confrontation during a visit to a government school in Jaipur district. The CJP alleged that its team was attacked while highlighting the condition of government schools, while police said FIRs were registered on complaints from both sides.

CJP alleges ‘scare tactics’

Ranka had earlier alleged that police were using what he described as “scare tactics” against CJP volunteers following the confrontation. He had claimed that 15 policemen were stationed outside a volunteer’s house and were enquiring about his family and him.The latest allegation comes amid a wider dispute between the CJP and the Rajasthan government over access to government schools. The state education department had restricted unauthorised entry, media access and filming inside government school premises. The move came after the CJP launched inspections of schools to highlight alleged infrastructure deficiencies.

What triggered the CJP-government row?

The CJP has been conducting school inspections under its campaign to highlight gaps in government-school infrastructure. The organisation has alleged that several schools lack basic facilities and has demanded corrective action from the state government. The dispute escalated after a CJP delegation was allegedly attacked during a school visit. Ranka claimed the assault was coordinated and alleged that some of those involved had been seen with a local BJP MLA before the confrontation.Police have said complaints were received from both sides and cases were registered.
