Jaipur: Political posters, banners and hoardings continue to appear across Jaipur despite the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) being in force, with walls, public spaces and even direction boards carrying unauthorised publicity.JMC officials said the issue persists because new material is often put up before enforcement teams can spot it.Deputy Commissioner of Jhalana zone Arpana Sharma said dedicated teams have been deployed to remove posters and other publicity. Deputy Commissioner of Murlipura zone Shraddha Singh said teams are working in three shifts to clear illegally placed posters, banners and hoardings.A report submitted Monday said 412 items were removed between Aug 22 and 24 from Murlipura and Vidyadharnagar zones: 200 hoardings, 175 banners, 17 posters and 20 pamphlets.Singh said putting up such material without authorisation is illegal regardless of whether the MCC is in force, and those caught are being fined or charged.Asked why posters keep resurfacing, Singh said civic authorities cannot control when people put them up. “We don’t know when someone comes and sticks them,” she said, adding that teams remove the material once it is detected.Residents in Murlipura said the repeated defacement is taking a toll. “The rules pertaining to the MCC have never really been followed. Such posters come up every day and spoil the look of our locality,” said Prerna Arora. “Putting up hoardings wishing someone a happy birthday using taxpayers’ money is ridiculous,” she added.
