Ranchi: Ahead of the special three-day session of the Parliament from Thursday to pass the proposed constitutional amendments for implementing the Women’s Reservation Bill (Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam), the ruling JMM has hit out at the Modi govt calling it a “political conspiracy”. Addressing the media at the party office, JMM’s central general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said that they will oppose the move, both in and outside the Parliament. The party has demanded the Modi govt to first conduct caste-based census and delimitation before trying to implement 33% women’s reservation. He said, “It’s a biggest ploy of Modi govt and is aimed at duping the women at large. It’s a political conspiracy like electoral bonds, through which it had legalised money extraction for its political mileage.” The JMM office bearer added that in 2023 when the women reservation bill was first introduced in the Parliament, they had wholeheartedly welcomed it as the govt said that they would finish off census and delimitation before implementing it. “Now in 2026, it is suddenly in a hurry to pass it without caste census and delimitation. The whole idea is to decrease seats in places where BJP doesn’t have any sway and increase its strongholds. BJP has nothing to do with the interest of women,” he said. “Without a proper caste-based census, how will reservation be introduced,” he further added.Calling upon BJP’s ally in the Centre — TDP and JDU (U) — JMM demanded immediately withdrawal of its support from central govt, if they are serious about welfare of women in any way. On the other hand, BJP has been conducting various public connect programmes to hail the move. On Wednesday, Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth and Union minister of state for defence, Sanjay Seth organised women bike rally in run up to tomorrow’s special session.
