Koderma: A Koderma court on Wednesday sentenced a 30-year-old man to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment for murdering his wife over dowry.Additional district and sessions judge III Rakesh Chandra also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convict, Manjeet Saw, a resident of Rupandih under Domchanch police station limits. If the convict fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional three months of imprisonment.Mahendra Sao, father of deceased, Radha Kumari, 25, reported that on the night of Oct 15, 2021, he received a call claiming that his daughter was unwell and had been taken to sadar hospital. When her family arrived at the hospital, they found her dead. The father alleged in his complaint that his daughter was beaten and strangled to death by her husband and in-laws who were harassing her for a dowry of Rs 1 lakh and an LED TV.During the trial, public prosecutor Praveen Kumar Singh presented 13 witnesses. The prosecution argued that despite the woman’s family providing a motorcycle, cash and other gifts at the time of the wedding, the accused continued to abuse and pressure Radha for more dowry. After hearing the arguments from defence advocate Uday Kumar Singh and reviewing the testimonies, the court found Sao guilty under Section 304B of the IPC.
