Ahmedabad: Allegations of medical negligence at SVP Hospital surfaced after a woman died during treatment on Wednesday, with her daughter sharing a video on social media accusing doctors of failing to provide proper care. The incident triggered protests by the opposition on Thursday, prompting the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to order an inquiry.The deceased, Gira Dipakkumar Soni, had been admitted to the hospital on Feb 21 with complaints of asthma and cough. According to AMC officials, her condition later worsened and she was shifted to the ICU three days before her death after developing multiple complications. A preliminary report by the civic body stated that the woman died due to multiple organ failure. AMC officials also said a postmortem examination could not be conducted as the family declined it.However, the patient’s daughter, Kshitisha Soni, alleged serious negligence by doctors in a video that went viral on social media. In the emotional clip, she claimed her mother was not given adequate treatment and accused the hospital of experimenting on patients under govt scheme.“My mother had asthma and diabetes and was admitted for treatment, but she did not receive proper care,” Kshitisha said in the video. She also alleged that hospital staff did not provide access to case papers despite repeated requests.Following the allegations, the deputy municipal commissioner of AMC constituted a three-member committee to investigate the matter.Opposition leader Shehzad Khan Pathan led a protest at the hospital premises on Thursday, demanding strict action against those responsible. He alleged that the patient had initially been admitted with mild symptoms but her condition deteriorated due to negligence.Pathan demanded that those responsible be immediately removed from duty and called for strict measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
