Noida: A woman posing as a domestic helper allegedly drugged and robbed an elderly resident at a residential society in Greater Noida West.Police said the incident took place at Amrapali Golf Homes Kingswood Society in Gaur City 2. According to a complaint filed by the woman’s son, Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, an unidentified woman arrived at their apartment around 3.30pm on Friday when Mishra and his wife were out at work. His mother, Shanti Mishra, was at the house with their six-month-old child.

When Shanti answered the doorbell, the woman said that her daughter-in-law had sent her for household chores. Believing her, Shanti allowed the woman inside. Shortly afterward, the helper allegedly threw a sedative substance at the elderly woman, rendering her unconscious.Once Shanti fainted, the helper removed a locket attached to a gold chain from her neck and fled. Nearly an hour later, she woke up after hearing the infant crying. In no time, she informed her son, who alerted the police.A team from Bisrakh police station reached the spot. Officers said a case has been registered against the unidentified woman. Investigators are examining possible entry and exit routes.The incident, however, has disturbed the residents of the society. They alleged the woman was not captured in CCTV footage because she exited through an area not covered by the cameras. They said security lapses have been a recurring issue and claimed that adequate night security guards are not deployed as per norms. They also stated that incidents of theft have been reported frequently in recent months.They had even staged a protest at the beginning of the week, demanding improved security measures within the premises.Meanwhile, the district police commissionerate has announced a special security audit across residential societies and institutions. In the campaign, scheduled between April 5 and 7, officers will conduct inspections of private security personnel deployed in various establishments. The audit will be carried out in coordination with RWAs, AOAs and security agencies.Officials said the drive will verify whether private security agencies have been properly registered and vetted, examine entry and exit registers for vehicles and visitors, assess the use of digital verification systems, and evaluate the number, functionality and storage capacity of CCTV cameras. Special attention will also be given to night security arrangements.
