Chandigarh: Two unidentified miscreants blindfolded a woman running a Verka milk booth in Sector 20 on Friday morning and fled with her purse containing ₹45,000 in cash. The Sector 19 police have registered a criminal case against the unknown suspects and launched a manhunt using local surveillance networks.The victim, Shanti Devi, a resident of Sector 27, arrived at around 8 am to open her booth for daily business and noticed two young men sitting outside. After unlocking the premises, she walked inside, placed her cash bag near the counter, and began preparing for her morning prayers.While her back was turned, one of the men crept up from behind and suddenly covered her eyes with a cloth. Simultaneously, his accomplice entered the booth, grabbed the purse full of cash, and the duo pushed the woman to the ground before escaping on foot.Devi briefly chased the attackers down the street, but the men took advantage of the inner residential lanes to slip away. She immediately dialed the emergency police control room at 112 to report the crime.Sector 19 police officials subsequently inspected the crime scene and recorded the victim’s formal statement. Investigators are currently scrutinising footage from multiple CCTV cameras installed across the immediate vicinity to identify the suspects and map their escape route.
