Chikkamagaluru: A 34-year-old woman died by suicide by jumping into a river in front of her children and husband in Chikkamagaluru’s Narasimharaja Pura taluk on Monday evening. Ranya of Muttinakoppa in NR Pura taluk is the deceased. She jumped off a bridge built over Tunga River in Muduba, bordering NR Pura and Thirthahalli taluk. According to the complaint lodged by Ranya’s father, she was married to Eldho 13 years ago, and the couple had two children — 10-year-old son, and six-year-old daughter. Ranya, a nurse, and her husband, a farmer, were not on good terms for some years now. Ranya, who was working at a private hospital in Shivamogga, was staying at her parental house in Shivamogga. She had been visiting and staying at her husband’s house for the last five months. SI Nuthan said Ranya left her house in Muttinakoppa on a two-wheeler, while her husband and children followed her in another vehicle. Ranya stopped the vehicle near the bridge and jumped off the bridge right in front of her family. “Before Eldho and children could reach the spot, she jumped,” the SI added.
