Kanpur: A woman, allegedly harassed by husband, jumped into a pond with her two-year-old girl in Husaina village under Muskara police station area of Hamirpur district on Thursday morning, police said. The girl died and the woman was admitted to hospital.The woman, Shobha (25), wife of Bhagat Singh, jumped into the pond with her daughter. Hearing the commotion, villagers and some people in a Prabhat Pheri reached the spot and alerted the police too. Some villagers jumped into the pond and pulled out the woman and her daughter. They both were taken to CHC Muskara, where doctors declared the child dead. Shobha is under treatment.At the hospital, Shobha alleged that her husband used to beat her regularly and fed up of the harassment, she decided to end her life. Villagers said that Singh was addicted to alcohol and often used to beat his wife.
